Pink like the "Gazzetta dello Sport", the same colour of the infamous newspaper, like those leaflets handed out on the top of a hill and then laid over a stomach as a protection from the cold of the descent. Pink like a champion's dawn. The Pink jersey, prerogative of the number one in the place list.
The Pink Jersey is an immortal symbol in the world of cycling, a dream for anyone riding his bike and pushing on the pedals to conquer the top of the climb. It represents much more than a ranking record: it's the motivation towards bigger goals and more difficult challenges.
One of the most notable changes on the 2017, is, as well as for the 2016 version of the Maglia Rosa, the raw cut elongated sleeves that come down to the elbow, this provides added aerodynamic qualities to the garment. The material used for the back and sleeves is Body Fit, which is extremely light and strong with a weight of 90g per square meter.
By using Body Fit the jersey is not only exceptionally light, but also provides an aerodynamic fit. The front of the garment is perforated Rudy fabric that is significantly less elastic than Body Fit, the Rudy fabric guarantees breathability while maintaining the cut necessary for the rider. Riding position requires significant elasticity in the back and less in the front to avoid creases that cause drag.
The cut of the collar is inspired by Santini's aero skinsuit designs similar to the one used by Peter Sagan in his UCI Road World Championship victory for Team Slovakia. The petal form alleviates discomfort caused by the zipper coming in contact with the neck. Elastic silicone grip at the bottom maintains the jersey position.
For the Centenary edition the jersey is enriched with some gold details, such as the piping on the sides, the inner neck collar and the pockets upper band on the back. The left sleeve and the inner neck feature the centenary logo with the infinite symbol, to make this jersey unique as this edition is.
